a MediaTemple DV Rage server

Apache

Ruby w/ Passenger

Sinatra Microframework

DataMapper

Haml

Sizzle (most of the JS will be custom, but I want a selector engine)

I have thought long and hard about the right tools for the particular application I am building, and there is my stack. It’s a very new stack of things for me, for the most part. Managing them all is going to be a serious challenge, but also, seriously rewarding.

The only thing I’ve had issue with, with this stack, is the lack of decent documentation that exists for many of these technologies. Many of these are quickly expanding, which is great in many ways, but also leaves the challenge of keeping the existing documentation to date. New versions are coming out all the time.

As someone who is trying to learn these technologies, it can become cumbersome to read old tutorials, to get half way through and realize it’s not working because of the versioning differences between what you’re running, and what the author of the tutorial was running.

So, this is why this blog is an experiment. It’s my attempt to document how I deal with the latest versions of these technologies, in an attempt to possibly help someone else (for the time…) and also my own sanity of writing down what it is I’ve learned.

Hopefully this will yield prosperous results.
